Some helpful hints for installing QuickTime so it doesn't take control of every media file on your computer:
1. In the "Choose Installation Type" box choose "Recommended".
2. In the "Enter Registration" box leave all lines blank.
3. When you get to the "QuickTime Settings-Browser Plug-In" box, click the "Mime" button and click the plus signs next to every category and
carefully select which file types you want QuickTime to play, otherwise QuickTime will become the default player and viewer for file types it has no business being the default player or viewer.
4. In the "File Type Associations" box uncheck all boxes except "Macintosh File Type".
